Samsung Electronics announced the bada 2.0 Power App Race, a global application contest hosted by the Samsung bada Developer site (developer.bada.com).
Now in its second year, the competition will formally launch bada 2.0 to mobile applications developers, inspiring them to create innovative new applications using the bada 2.0 SDK.
A total of 10 applications, including five game applications and five non-game applications, will be selected and rewarded with prize money totalling up to $ 1 million. Also, winning applications will receive the ‘Power App' mark at Samsung Apps, exclusive marketing and promotion benefits.
Entries close at midnight on December 31. Developers can enter as many applications as they wish. The first 10 apps to reach 100,000 cumulative downloads will be chosen as the final winners, announced on the bada Developer site upon reaching the target.

Finding solutions in technology
SAP TechEd 2011, a three-day technology and business process conference series concluded on Friday at the KTPO Trade Centre in Whitefield. Over 10,500 attendees, including academics and members of the tech-business community participated in this annual event.
Delivering the keynote address, Vishal Sikka, member of the SAP Executive Board, leading technology and innovation, said the power of technology could be used to solve major social and economic issues of our time. “Technology simplifies and levels the playing field with real-time access to information and the power to act on it,” he said. He also launched ChariTra (www.charitra.in), an on-demand network created by SAP Labs in India that connects volunteers, non-profits and corporations to work together.
Download Ubuntu's newest version for free
Open source software firm Canonical announced the release of Ubuntu 11.10, a new version of the open source Linux-based operating system, available for free download from this week.
According to a release from the company, highlights of the new release include the extensive collection of applications available for free download and purchase in the Ubuntu Software Centre, the integrated Ubuntu One service, which now enables you to stream music from your personal Ubuntu One cloud to your phones. The new version has substantial benefits for those looking for the latest personal cloud and Web technologies, as well as those running on older hardware, the release added.
Ubuntu 11.10 also sees a full update to the recently released GNOME 3. Jane Silber, chief executive officer of Canonical, said that the ease of use, stylishness and key tasks such as safe Web surfing, document sharing, office productivity and personal clouds for music, files and photos are central to the Ubuntu experience. “This makes it not just a system for system administrators, developers and expert users, but for a growing community of home users that want a simpler, safer way to use the PC.”
Rheinland's first anechoic chamber
TUV Rheinland, a technical services company, inaugurated its first 10-metre anechoic chamber at Electronics City. This chamber will support testing and certification activities for all industry segments such as Medical, Wireless, Automotive, Electrical and Electronics.
The former Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde inaugurated the facility. The anechoic chamber will enable testing of any electronic and wireless product for radiations ranging between 9 kHz to 40 gHz in accordance with national and international standards CISPR, FCC, ETSI, etc. It will also support technologies like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, GSM 3 and 4G.
The focus area will be in the field of electromagnetic, wireless technology, electrical safety and product reliability, to name a few.
