UDAN takes off

Low-cost flights connecting the hinterland of India with the main hubs are now a reality (“PM launches low-cost regional flights”, April 28). Hopefully the whole exercise is not experimental and will come to stay. Frequent travellers, people in rural India, the aged and the disabled are now the main beneficiaries. The time saved in travel will be tremendous. Progressively, more people will begin to fly. Another big plus is that congestion in the major airports will reduce as fliers will now have more direct options. One hopes that the financial feasibility of such operations can be managed.
