The life of Ms. Jayanthi who manages a crematorium in Namakkal, Tamil Nadu (“A funeral manager who laid orthodoxy to rest”, Aug.16) is a classic example of a woman’s inimitable courage and exceptional tolerance in a society wedded to orthodoxy, superstition and centuries-old male domination. The Independence Day award for her is a well-deserved one.
