Do we really need an international survey (“ >India among top 3 regions in corruption-linked fraud ”, June 27) to certify and grade how corrupt our society is? Even a child knows that things move only when bribes are paid. No degree of sensitising and sensationalism on corruption shames us as we are too thick-skinned to be sermonised about the evils of bribery. The pet phrase of our governments that vouch for “zero-tolerance” to corruption is amusing. Our Swachh Bharat campaign can wait. What we really need is “Shuddh Bharat”. We do not hesitate to take an oath on god to serve the nation selflessly but shamelessly indulge in unethical practices. We even elect “court-declared” corrupt men and entrust them with power to rule us. We can make a beginning by observing an “Honesty Day”.
