This refers to the article “The fast food bomb” (July 29). For the young and the busy, fast food has become a part of life. With malls coming up all around us, junk food is available in plenty.

The matter should be dealt with seriously by all, especially the government. The intention should be to save people, especially the young, from the clutches of the deadly diseases hidden in obesity.

In a country which houses around a fourth of the world’s under nourished people, there is also an overwhelming problem of childhood obesity. Junk food rich in salt, sugar and fat, while being poor in proteins, vitamins and minerals, forms the tasty yet unhealthy eating routine of today’s well-off children. Celebrities should stay away from the promotion of junk food.
