Diluting norms

This refers to the report, “PMO pulled out all stops to weaken eco, forest norms” (Feb. 27). People smelt a rat when the Environment Ministry became the subject of intense discussion during the UPA’s tenure and when Ministers were shifted out in quick succession in the name of “party work.” Now their suspicions have been confirmed with this shocking report of how the Prime Minister’s Office diluted environment and forest clearances. It shows the complete lack of sensitivity of the government towards nature. Our very existence is linked to the well-being of the environment. It is ironic that the UPA doles out crores of rupees in the name of rural welfare but looks the other way by catering to the needs of business cartels who in turn undermine the environment.
