This refers to the article “Trade in the ghosts of 1962” (Nov. 15). Though an interesting analogy has been drawn between two seemingly similar situations, the writer has taken a rather simplistic view of politics which, unlike business, primarily revolves round popular sentiments and values of a nation’s people. Laying off workers can hardly be compared with a loss of livelihood of the war displaced. The rather idealistic anatomical examination in the article is ignorant of the complex dynamics of war, cultural dilemma and the fine subtleties of foreign affairs.
