He believes that “awards are like applauses and should not be scoffed at”, no matter how large or small they are. That’s Ben Kingsley for you. Best known in India for “Gandhi”, Kingsley believes he has an eternal connection to the sunshine country. While he would select a role if it is challenging, he feels that it is vital that "the script, film maker, director should fit in". The one thing that never fails to excite him about a film is its “unpredictability and the fact that no two days are ever alike.” Kingsley elaborates that, unlike theatre where there is an instant connect with the audience, in films it is the awards that follow that tell an actor how the audience has “received our performance. These awards connect us to them and to know if they have liked our work.” While he doesn’t quite find himself doing much in Bollywood, he’s not closing the option either. “It all depends on what the character offered to me will be,’ signs off Kingsley.
