Gadchiroli police on Sunday announced the death of three Maoists in a joint operation near Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border.
According to a press statement issued by the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) Gadchiroli, three Maoists of National Park Supply Dalam of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) were killed in a joint operation by Maharashtra police and Chhattisgarh police near Bada Kakler village under Pharasgad police station in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Saturday evening.
The deceased were identified as Chaitu alias Navin Madavi(38) of Pallivara village, Masi Telam (27) of Zhappili village and Sannu Udu (23) of Sagmetha village of Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.
Gadchiroli police claimed that a group of Maoists attacked the police parties which were carrying out a joint combing operation in the forest between Bada Kakler and Chota Kakler village.
Police retaliated the fire, killing three Maoists. A 12 bore rifle, three backpacks, some medicine and Maoist literature were recovered from the spot of encounter, said the press statement.
