Three Maoists arrested, six surrender

Nagpur: The Maharashtra police on Friday claimed to have arrested three hardcore Maoists from the insurgency-hit Gadchiroli district bordering Chhattisgarh.

“On specific intelligence inputs, the Maharashtra police had launched an anti-Maoist operation in the forest near Sendra village of Gadchiroli. When the police entered the village, three women were seen to be running away. A police team stopped them for inquiry. It was found that they work for the local Maoist Dalam,” Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police said in a statement. The women were identified as Maii Lati, Sarita Madkam and Pakali Gade. All the three are from Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh and were involved in many violent Maoist activities in the area.

In a separate development, six Maoists, including a Maoist Jan Militia commander, surrendered before the security forces in Bastar region on Friday. Maoist Jan Militia commander Shambhu alias Ramesh Poyam surrendered before 80th battalion of the CRPF in Jagdalpur district headquarters of Bastar and five Maoists surrendered before the police in Bijapur district.
