Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Voluntary Health Services (VHS) are organising a ‘Disability conclave' on December 17 and 18 on VHS premises in Taramani.

E.S. Krishnamoorthy, honorary secretary, VHS, said the conclave was to create a platform for people with disability and industries to interact with one another and explore the possibility of employment. About 150 persons with disability, selected by the Federation of Physically Handicapped Associations, would be assessed by a technical team initially. They would also have an interaction with HR personnel from sectors like auto, IT, food and beverages, FMCG and hospitality. “The interaction will present a realistic perspective which can be a template for future interactions,” he said. There will be sessions on employment opportunities in industry, the role of media and disability among the marginalised. At a scientific session on brain and mind disability, four professors from the United Kingdom will deliver special lectures. Earlier, persons with disability were at a disadvantage in working at factories and shop floors which used to be the work place. The emergence of a strong services sector with corporate offices has changed the work environment drastically but the mindset still remains, said Dr. Krishnamoorthy, also the convenor of CII Tamil Nadu Healthcare Panel.
