Mobile assistance unit inaugurated

Distribution of agricultural inputs and implements on wheels. This is the new concept evolved by the Agriculture Department, with a view to ensuring prompt distribution of assistances and agricultural implements to all the farmers. Called ‘Agricultural welfare scheme centre', the mobile unit would be utilised for the distribution of scheme-specific implements to the farmers. The Agriculture Department has been implementing various schemes but the vehicle has been designed in such a manner that its interior could be altered for stocking and transporting scheme-specific assistance or implements.

The mobile unit was inaugurated on Friday for the implementation of the National Agriculture Development Programme (NADP). Speaking after inaugurating the centre here, A. Suganthi, District Collector, said that a total of 2,050 farmers would get implements worth Rs.61.50 lakh for raising paddy under the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) technique in 13 blocks in the district. A total of 180 farmers of Pudukottai block got the assistance on Friday.

T.Thangavelu, Joint Director of Agriculture, said that it has been planned to set up 2050 demonstration plots on SRI technique in the district. Inputs including fertiliser,urea and implements such as Marker in all worth Rs.3,000 would be released to the farmers.

P.Raju, Deputy Director of Agriculture; Deputy Director of Horticulture, S. Raju were among those who were present.
