Ward member hacked to death

A ward member of the Kattankolathur panchayat union was hacked to death by an unidentified gang on Tuesday morning.

According to police, the ward member, Kumaravelu (36) of Thirutheri, accompanied by his friend Thevu, had gone to a temple in nearby Anumanthapuram on a motorcycle. While he was on his way back to home at around 8 a.m., he and his friend were knocked down from their motorcycle by another motorcyclist, as they were travelling on Singaperumalkoil-Anumanthapuram road.

While Thevu managed to escape by running away through a nearby field, Kumaravelu rushed into a nearby hospital only to be hacked to death inside the hospital premises by a gang of six persons, armed with lethal weapons, police added. Maraimalai Nagar police have registered a case and investigating.
