Rolls for council polls released

The District Collector, M.Chandrasekaran, released the draft electoral rolls for the Tamil Nadu East Central Graduates, and Teachers Constituencies of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Council here on Thursday.

According to the rolls there are 17,929 voters — graduates and teachers — in the district. The Collector said that according to the rolls released on November 22, 2010, there were 5549 graduates and 1011 teachers in Tiruvarur district. In the revision process taken up from November 22 to December 16, 2010, 10507 graduates and 962 teachers had been added. Names of 98 graduates and two teachers had been deleted.

As per the rolls released on Thursday, there are 15,958 graduates and 1971 teachers in Tiruvarur district for the Tamil Nadu East Central Constituency.

M.Thangavel, District Revenue Officer, and N.Sriraman, Revenue Divisional Officer, Tiruvarur, were present.

Karur

There are 14,613 electors in the Graduates' Constituency and 2,053 voters in the Teachers' Constituency for the proposed Legislative Council from the five taluks in Karur district. The final electoral rolls for the Legislative Council constituencies were released here on Thursday.

District Collector J.Uma Maheswari said that there were 1,006 male voters and 570 female voters in Aravakurichi taluk, 5,180 male electors and 4,103 female electors in Karur taluk, 746 male voters and 407 female voters in Krishnarayapuram taluk, 1,385 male voters and 671 female voters in Kulithalai taluk, and 409 male voters and 136 female voters in Kadavur taluk eligible for the Graduates' Constituency from Karur ditrict.

In all there were 8,726 graduate men voters and 5,887 graduate women voters for the Graduate Constituencies, she said.

For the Teachers' Constituency, there are 114 male and 106 female electorate in Aravakurichi taluk, 624 male and 841 female voters in Karur taluk, 66 male and 46 female voters in Krishnarayapuram taluk, 112 male and 92 female voters in Kulithalai taluk, and 43 male and nine female voters in Kadavur taluk. For the Teachers' Constituency of the Legislative Council there are 959 male electors and 1,094 female electors in Karur district, Dr. Uma Maheswari said.

The Karur Revenue Divisional Officer, Ashok Kumar, released the electoral rolls in the presence of Dr.Uma Maheswari. The electoral rolls would be displayed prominently at all the taluk offices in the district, and eligible voters could verify the details, the Collector said.
