Assamese singer Bhupen Hazarika continues to be under intensive care nearly a week after he was hospitalised in Mumbai. He has lost some blood and is overcome by weakness.
“He's too weak, though his vitals are stable. There has been some loss of blood through stools. Doctors have to decide if blood transfusion would be required,” filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi, Mr. Hazarika's long-time companion, told The Hindu over telephone on Monday.
Ms. Lajmi said Mr. Hazarika was also diagnosed with a pneumonic patch and was being administered antibiotics.
“We have to pray hard. Despite wonderful 24-hour care, it's taking him time. Hope he comes through. He still cannot have food and has to be fed through a nasal pipe. He should regain his strength. We have to see that his parameters are stable,” she said.
Mr. Hazarika was rushed to the hospital last Tuesday after he suffered dehydration. He is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in suburban Andheri.
