Chess tournament sees huge participation

G. Gugan, and S.M.R. Rakghitha respectively won the title in the under 15 years category at ‘ The Hindu in School Chess Competition 2017’ held at Holy Cross Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Ammapet here on Saturday.

The tournament evoked overwhelming response, with 304 boys and girls participating in the competitions in the four categories of Under 15 (52 participants), under 13 (100), under 11 (90) and under 9 (62).

V. Simon Samuel, and P.S. Aardritha won the titles in the under 13 years category.

Vaiebhav Shreevarshan, and C. Kanishkaa were the winners in the under 11 category.

The title in the under nine years category went to A.S. Jeevaa and Kavyasree.

The tournament was played on Swiss League basis under the latest FIDE Rapid Rules.

K. Shankar, City Police Commissioner, was the chief guest at the valediction and he gave away the prizes.

John Joseph, principal, Holy Cross Matriculation Higher Secondary School, offered felicitations.

Winners were given prizes and merit certificates. All participants were given participation certificates.

The event was held under the aegis of Salem District Chess Association.

The event was presented by Thyrocare and Arrow Publications is the knowledge Partner. Holy Cross Matric Higher Secondary School was the venue partner.
