The Centre on Monday gave hints of going slow on two controversial matters – evolving a political consensus on the Telangana issue and setting up of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC).
Addressing a press conference, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said he would talk to all Chief Ministers to build consensus on setting up of the NCTC, while the Central government was yet to decide on calling an all-party meeting to discuss the Telangana issue.
Pointing out that several delegations from Andhra Pradesh have met him demanding the creation of Telangana, he said: “I have heard them carefully. It is a long pending issue… there are different types of opinions. We have to see all of them… we have to deal [with it] carefully.”
The Centre was in receipt of reports that there was a spurt in naxal activity in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand after they were carved out of Madhya Pradesh and Bihar respectively. The government was evaluating the situation, he said, adding that it was in no hurry to convene an all-party meeting.
