November 21, 2017, marks the fourth anniversary of the beginning of the pro-E.U. protests in Ukraine. People gathered to commemorate the Maidan protest movement and the events which took place in late February 2014 that led to the departure of former Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovich and the formation of a new government.

On November 21, 1997, the working fishermen and women representing World Forum of Fish Harvesters & Fish Workers from 18 countries met at New Delhi and established the World Fisheries Forum (WFF) advocating for a global mandate of sustainable fishing practices and policies. Of the millions of species of insects and creepy-crawlies, the scorpion is one of the few that has fascinated man since antiquity. It has been elevated to the sky as a zodiac sign and deified as the Egyptian goddess Serket. The Hindu temples of Khajuraho were built in an area that had people called Kharjuravahaka or scorpion bearers. The Falaknuma Palace at Hyderabad, India has been built in the shape of a scorpion.  Read more.

Myanmar's de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Tuesday said she hopes talks with Bangladesh this week will result in a memorandum of understanding on the “safe return” of Rohingya Muslims who fled to Bangladesh in the past three months. A military clearance operation launched in Myanmar's Rakhine State has driven more than 6,00,000 Rohingya out of the Buddhist-majority country since late August.

David Warner is confident he’ll overcome a painful neck strain in time to play for Australia in the Ashes series opener against England on Thursday. Warner hurt his neck during a fielding drill Tuesday morning and received immediate treatment. He went for batting practice but only faced two balls before leaving the net. He gave himself 48 hours to recover before the first test starts at the Gabba. “My neck is quite stiff,” the Australia vice-captain said. “I’m getting a bit of treatment at the moment and hopefully it settles down I don’t think a sore neck is going to keep me out.”

Kenneth Branagh won the International Emmy for Best Actor, while Anna Friel won the Best Actress trophy at the 2017 International Emmy Awards gala Monday night in New York.  Branagh and Friel were among 11 winning performers and programs spanning eight countries- Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Norway, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States. The awards are presented annually by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, which represents more than 60 countries and 500 companies from all sectors of TV, including internet and mobile technology.

Melania Trump, and son Barron, continued a time-honoured, first lady tradition on Monday: receiving the official White House Christmas tree. A military band quartet played holiday tunes as a horse- drawn wagon carried the 19 1/2-foot Balsam fir from Wisconsin up the White House driveway. They circled the tree and walked over to Jim and Diane Chapman, who presented it. The Chapmans own a Wisconsin Christmas tree farm and won an annual contest sponsored by the National Christmas Tree Association. “This is a beautiful tree. Thank you so much. We will decorate it very nicely,” the First Lady told the Chapmans and other members of their family. “I hope you can come and visit with us.”

Automobile giant Mahindra on Monday opened its new manufacturing plant with an investment of $230 million in the world’s car capital Detroit, which got its first automotive production facility in 25 years. The new plant will create 250 new jobs in the US. In few weeks from now, the new facility will produce an off-highway vehicle which will extend Mahindra’s current position in this growing segment.

India’s nominee to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) Dalveer Bhandari was on Monday re-elected to the fifth and the last seat of the world court after Britain withdrew its candidate from the election. Mr. Bhandari received 183-193 votes in the General Assembly and secured all the 15 votes in the Security Council after separate and simultaneous elections were held at the UN headquarters in New York.
