The fate of the contentious Telangana Bill and other Bills will be clear on Monday but there is no meeting point between the government and the Opposition on any of these measures.
CPI(M) leader Prakash Karat on Sunday said the Telangana Bill had not been introduced in the Lok Sabha. “What happened in Parliament on Thursday was unfortunate. We condemn it. But we cannot accept the government’s claim that the Telangana Bill has been tabled in Parliament. There was trouble in the House. Opposition cannot accept it,” he said after meeting YSR Congress leader Jaganmohan Reddy.
Jairam Ramesh, member of the Group of Ministers on the issue, said the government should not rush it amid “cacophony”. “My personal belief is that such an important piece of legislation must be debated and discussed and not pushed through in din. We shouldn’t have any unilateral initiative in the House. We have to bring BJP on board. We should try to create a larger consensus beyond BJP as well. We have four days left. I hope we can get it done,” he said during a television interview.
