Employees of newspapers and news agencies on Tuesday decided to gherao Parliament on March 20 as part of the nationwide agitation for implementation of the Majithia wage board award notified by the government over three months ago.
A decision to this effect was taken by the Confederation of Newspaper and News Agency Employees' Organisations (CNNAEO), an apex body of media workers, at a meeting here.
In New Delhi, journalists and non-journalists will gherao Parliament, demanding the government to direct media houses to implement the recommendations that was notified by it on November 11, 2011, CNNAEO general secretary M.S. Yadav said.
Media persons will organise sit-ins in the State capitals on the same day and give memorandums to Chief Ministers or Governors, he added.
The meeting was attended by Santosh Kumar and Madan Talwar of AINEF, Rajendra Prabhu of NUJI, Madan Singh of IJU, S.K. Pandey of DUJ, M.L. Joshi of UNI Workers Unions, general secretary of Times of India Unions, Roop Chand, president of Indian Express Union, C.K. Naidu and PTI's Sanjay Sinha, Rajbir Singh and Ajay Tyagi.
The CNNAEO leaders expressed concern over non-implementation of the recommendations so far, and decided to pressure the government to get it implemented by issuing media houses strong instructions. “It is the responsibility of the Prime Minister to get the report implemented without any further loss of time so that the notifications do not remain merely a piece of paper,” Mr. Yadav said. — PTI
