The Confederation of Newspaper and News Agency Employees’ Organisations on Wednesday announced launching of a nation-wide agitation from December 12 over non-implementation by managements the recommendations of Majithia Wageboard for Journalists and Non-Journalists notified by the Central government.
The decision to stage the nation-wide stir was taken at an emergency meeting of the Confederation here.
At the meeting, the CNNAEO members regretted that though the Central government had notified the recommendations of the Majithia Wageboard on November 11 and that there was no stay by the Supreme Court, the managements of the newspaper industry and the news agencies were allegedly dilly-dallying over its implementation and shirking their legal responsibilities.
The meeting felt that the employees had no choice but to resort to agitation on December 12 and demonstrate in front of Times of India and The Press Trust of India building if the newspaper and news agencies managements failed to implement the Wageboard recommendations.
Confederation General Secretary M.S.Yadav said if the newspapers owners did not heed to the demand of the newspaper employees regarding the implementation of Wageboard recommendations at the earliest, then it will continue the agitation indefinitely till the demands are fulfilled.
Mr. Yadav also appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and other political leaders to use their good offices to impress upon the newspapers owners for implementing the Wageboard recommendations at the earliest.
He said the CITU, AITUC, HMS, BMS and other trade union organisations have been invited to express their solidarity and support the cause of the newspapers and news agencies employees on December 12.
The Confederation meeting was attended by Suresh Akhouri and Madan Singh of Indian Union of Journalists, Maheshwar Daylu Gangwar of NUJI, Madan Talwar of AINEF, S. K. Pandey of DUJ, General Secretary of Times of India Unions Roop Chand, Rajbir Singh and Ajay Tyagi of Federation of PTI Employees Unions, M L Joshi of UNI Workers Unions and President of Indian Express Union C K Naidu and leaders of several trade unions.
