The BJP and Shiv Sena workers and a group of students on Friday staged demonstrations in the Jammu and Kashmir winter capital over the beheading of an Indian soldier, Lance Naik Hemraj, last year. A purported video of the January 8, 2013, incident on social media and some television news channels stimulated the unrest.
Scores of BJP workers gathered at Vikas Lane in Talab Tiloo area and raised slogans against Pakistan. They condemned the soldier’s beheading two days after his first death anniversary and a day after the video clip appeared on social media. Hemraj was killed allegedly in a strike by the Pakistani Army's Border Action Team in Mendhar sector, in Poonch district along with another soldier.
A group of students staged similar demonstrations outside Science College in the same area of Jammu city.
The Shiv Sena activists staged a demonstration at Rani Park, not far away from the Civil Secretariat. The State head of the organisation, Ashok Gupta, addressed the gathering which raised anti-Pakistan and pro-Indian slogans.
Activists of the Dogra Front also participated in the demonstrations.
