A software engineer who started a voluntary organisation ‘We can make a change’ along with his friends a few months ago won accolades for their social service initiatives including beautification of public places and promoting sanitation in Sircilla textile town.
Pallam Karthik, residing in Sircilla town and working in Hyderabad, noticed the dirty surroundings at the RTC old bus stand and Sulabh complex in Sircilla and took up beautification of the premises by painting the premises along with his friends.
Earlier, the old bus stand stairways and the Sulabh complex were very untidy with stains of pan masala spits and posters and pamphlets.
The members of “We can make a change” totally transformed the premises by painting it with exotic colours and also kept flower pots so that the passers by would not spit again. They wrote notices on the walls not to paste posters and avoid spitting on the walls.
When their efforts came to the notice of Minister for IT and Municipal Administration K Taraka Rama Rao, he appreciated them on a twitter message. He also asked Collector D. Krishna Bhaskar to appreciate their initiatives .
Accordingly, the Collector invited all the eight members of the voluntary organisation including its founder Karthik to his chambers on Monday and interacted with them. He enquired about the social service programmes and their motivation to do so . Later, he visited the beautified RTC bus station and Sulabh complex and also presented them with memento.
The Collector urged the the voluntary organisation members to take up beautification of all the walls in Sircilla town after completion of road-widening works. He directed the municipal authorities to ensure proper sanitation at the places cleaned up by the volunteers.
