Opposition parties have accused the ruling party of stifling the critical voices in the Assembly and found fault with the way in which the Assembly session was conducted by not allowing any healthy discussion on issues concerning people.
BJP floor leader K. Laxman said the session disappointed people as major issues like farmers’ suicides, fee reimbursement, social security pensions, ration cards, employment and others did not come up for discussion at all. Their effort to highlight these issues were foiled by the treasury benches. The government failed to convince the Opposition on every important issue by asking people to wait for 2-3 years for results.
He accused the Congress of colluding with the ruling party and compromising on people’s issues. The ruling party had stifled the voice of some members by not allowing them to speak, he alleged.
Thati Venkateswarlu of YSR Congress alleged that the ruling and main opposition parties had wasted time in arguments criticising each other. He flayed the government for not finalising the location for setting up tribal university. The ruling party had also not made any effort to infuse confidence in the farming community, which is in distress.
Describing the budget session as “routine”, Sunnam Rajaiah of CPI (M) said the way session was held was no different to the sessions in united AP. The ruling party had started over-powering the Opposition, he alleged.
