Lolam Shamsunder has been re-elected president of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) western Adilabad unit, unanimously at the mini-Mahanadu organised at Adilabad on Wednesday. While, his election was an unanimous affair in the presence of State ST Cell president Laxman Naik, other office-bearers will be elected later said the party’s Polit Bureau member Ramesh Rathod.

The mini-Mahanadu, attended by an estimated 3,000 cadres from the five Assembly constituencies in the western side of the district adopted five resolutions through which demands were made.

The TDP demanded raising the ex gratia limit in case of farmer suicide from Rs.1 lakh to Rs.5 lakh and declaration of drought which would mean payment of compensation to farmers, who have already lost crops.

Other resolutions pertained to construction of the Pranahita project barrage in Tummidi-Hatti in Adilabad only, reopening of the closed Sirpur Paper Mills and release of State’s share of 15 per cent of the funds required to carryout survey on Adilabad-Armoor railway line.

Earlier, addressing the mini-Mahanadu gathering, Mr. Rathod asserted that the TDP would come back to power in Telangana in the next election.

“Various surveys have shown people are disillusioned with the Telangana Rashtra Samiti, as it has gone back on electoral promises,” he said.
