Telangana PCC vice-president and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar has urged the State Government to present US president’s daughter Ivanka Trump with ‘Bathukamma’ saree during her visit to Hyderabad.
Talking to newsmen in Manakondur mandal headquarters on Friday, he said that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who claimed that the Bathukamma sarees were the pride of Telangana, should present the saree woven by the Sircilla powerloom weavers to Ivanka Trump.
He said that the presentation of Bathukamma saree along with other gifts to Ivanka would highlight the importance of Sircilla powerloom weavers throughout the world.
Welcoming Ivanka Trump’s visit to Hyderabad, he urged the Chief Minister to also present Pochampalli sarees, silver filigree and diamond sets etc. as gifts when he meets her.
He reminded that the Sircilla weavers had won accolades for weaving saree and shawl which can fit in a matchbox.
