Power utilities staff protest against Congress across Telangana

Electricity employees working for four power utilities in the State, under the aegis of Telangana Electricity Employees Joint Action Committee, staged protests across the State demanding withdrawal of a Public Internet Litigation filed by an individual allegedly at the behest of Congress party.

The leaders of the JAC demanded the Congress leadership to make the petitioner withdraw the PIL as absorbing about 21,000 outsourced workers engaged by the power utilities for over two decades would help as many families. The unemployed youth too should not have any apprehensions as the outsourced staff were not being absorbed into the regular posts.

The employees have decided to stage protests in front of the Congress offices and the residences of the party leaders if the PIL was not withdrawn. If the Congress had any scores to settle with the ruling TRS it should do it in the political arena and not by playing with the lives of the working class, they suggested.

Meanwhile, the High Court struck down a petition filed by the contractors opposing the absorption of the outsourced staff.
