Former AICC secretary and MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy on Wednesday urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to withdraw the ordinance on Polavaram project that facilitates merger of seven mandals in Khammam district into residuary AP.

In a letter sent to the Prime Minister, Mr. Sudhakar Reddy said that public representatives of the area were disturbed by the ordinance. He said the recent ordinance issued by the NDA Government said that seven mandals of Bhadrachalam and Palvancha divisions would be transferred to residuary AP.

Actually 134 revenue villages and 74 hamlets had been mentioned as submerged areas under Polavaram project, which were incorporated in the AP Reorganisation Bill 2014. He said resentment was brewing among the people particularly the tribals. He said Telangana would lose 460 MW hydel power project at Chintoor, Indirasagar project at Velerupadu mandal in AP along with mining areas. He lamented that the action of NDA Government upsets the interests of the people of Telangana.
