‘Plenty of opportunities in biochemistry’

Current research in chemistry has the potential to change the very direction of the world, professor of Chemistry in the Yamaguchi National University of Japan Akio Kamimura said.

The scope of Biochemistry has fast been expanding and opportunities for Indian students were also increasing, Prof Kamimura said while addressing a gathering of students and academics in Telangana University here on Friday. There was a need to promote research in sciences, he added.

Prof Kamimura who visited the varsity on the invitation of Registrar Y. Jayaprakash Rao, said that chemistry played a pivotal role in invention of medicines to combat diseases in human beings. Results would become useful to all when the quality of research improves, he added.

Indian students have ample opportunities in research and many Indians have acquired a good name and position in the field across the globe, he said expressing his gratitude to the hospitality and honor given by TU academics and students.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor P. Sambaiah, said that professors from other countries generally visited the universities located in metro cities, but Prof. Kamimura showed his character by accepting the invitation and visiting the rural-based university like Telangana University and thanked him.

The Registrar later took the visiting professor round the colleges and laboratories. Prof. Kamimura was felicitated by the TU authorities. Controller of Examinations P. Kanakaiah, academics Nagaraju and Balakishan were present.
