Buoyed over the successful conduct of revival of the minor irrigation tanks in the rural areas under the Mission Kakatiya programme, the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar (MCK) also took up the revival of a check-dam on the premises of the SRR Government Arts and Science College on Thursday. The NSS volunteers of the college had constructed a check-dam as part of the conservation of rainwater on the premises long ago.

The MCK authorities have decided to convert it into a small lake by strengthening the check-dam and removal of silt.

Karimnagar legislator Gangula Kamalakar and Mayor S Ravinder Singh and Municipal Commissioner K Ramana Chary formally launched the programme of removing of silt from the check-dam.

Speaking on the occasion, the legislator said that revival of tank on the college premises would increase the green cover as well as the groundwater table.

The Mayor said that they would beautify the check-dam for the benefit of local visitors and walkers and erect cement benches.

College principal B Madhusudhan Reddy and others were also present.
