The students of Agriculture Engineering College, affiliated to the Prof. Jayashankar Agriculture University, have been on relay fast demanding that the government provide them jobs. The relay fast has reached fourth day on Monday.

Their contention was that their education qualification was not recognised by the government even in the recent notification for agriculture extension officers.

“In the recent notification issued by the government for extension officers ‘Agriculture Engineering’ was not even mentioned as a qualification. How can the government ignore the students of the only agriculture engineering college in the State?” asked B. Devender Reddy, a graduate from the college and one of the participants in the dharna.

Needed expertise

More than 100 students from the college are on the war path demanding that the government to appoint them as assistant directors in Agriculture Department as they have expertise in engineering.

Referring to the government’s sub-mission on agriculture mechanisation, the students said that the operational guidelines suggested using the services of agriculture engineering experts to increase the farm mechanisation which would result in additional output.

No response

“Why has the government not responded to our protest even after our fast has reached the fourth day? Why are we not being considered as engineers? Our services can be used in using the machines for farming and in post harvest technologies,” said Naga Sree, one of the students.
