Doctors led by IMA president G. Koulaiah and secretary K. Bhuma Reddy took out a rally and staged dharna in front of the Collectorate, here on Monday, protesting against the formation of National Medical Council in the place of Medical Council of India.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bhuma Reddy said the NMC was formed with the persons not related to medical profession only to benefit the private medical colleges. With this, there was every possibility to increase tuition fee as per the wish of the private colleges distancing the medical education from the poor and the middle classes, he said.

He said it was not fair to conduct another exam after the completion of MBBS and therefore the exit test must be cancelled. He also demanded that the PNDT Act relating to gender confirmation test must be amended as it was punishing doctors even for small faults. He appealed to the government to effectively implement the Act to punish those who were attacking doctors and hospitals.

Later, they handed over a memorandum to District Collector M. Ram Mohan Rao. Senior doctors J. Bapu Reddy, Ravindranath Soory, Fareeda Begum, Ajja Srinivas and Akula Vishal and medical college students participated.
