In a heart-rending incident, a couple reportedly killed their three daughters and committed suicide for allegedly being branded sorcerers by their relatives and community members in Gangireddu Colony in Kandugula village of Huzurabad mandal on Sunday night.

Police said Ganta Komuraiah (30), belonging to the Gangireddu community, and his wife Komuramma (28) reportedly killed their three daughters Yellamma (9), Komuramma (6) and Anjamma (5) by strangulating them with blouses around their necks and later they committed suicide by hanging to the ceiling with saree in their small house. The incident took place late on Sunday night, and it came to light on Monday morning.

It was learnt that the couple had been harassed by some relatives, alleging that they had been practising witchcraft. Several times, community leaders had held panchayat on the issue. On Tholi Edkadasi, Komuravva was invited to her parents’ house in Kondapur village. At that time, her brother and sister-in-law and others allegedly thrashed her, branding her sorceress and causing illness of their family members. She returned to her native Kandugula and informed her husband of the incident. Komuraiah reported his woes to his brothers staying at the same village and was planning to approach the police.
