Alleged Maoist and two couriers arrested

The Venkatapuram police have arrested an alleged Maoist militia member and two couriers from Chhattisgarh during a vehicle checking drive near Charla in Bhadrachalam division on Saturday.

According to police, the arrested include “Maoist militia member” Kunjam Deva, 20, of Charla mandal in Khammam district, “couriers” - Karam Hanumanthu, 19, and Kambala Satish, 28, of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh.

Rs.75,000 seized

A police team engaged in the task of vehicle checking nabbed the them while they were allegedly travelling towards Charla on two motorbikes in the morning. The police seized Rs.75,000 cash and two bikes from them.

The police said the trio were on their way to Charla to purchase some medicines and other provisions for the rebels of Pamedu area in Chhattisgarh.

The arrested Maoist militia member was allegedly involved in digging pits on Pusuguppa-Voddipeta villages in Bhadrachalam division along with several other militia members on August 1 this year, police sources added.
