Paavoorchathram police have arrested a youth for allegedly causing the death of his father, an alcoholic.

The police said Pitchumani alias Duraimani (55), an utensils merchant from Karisalur under Paavoorchathram police station limits, used to pick quarrels with his family members under the influence of alcohol every night. When he demanded money from his wife and sons on Thursday night in an inebriated condition, they refused to give him. Suddenly, Duraimani stabbed his second son Selvam (20) on his back. When he tried to stab his son again, Selvam, in a bid to escape, pushed him aside and ran out of the house. As Duraimani fell on the floor, he sustained injury in the nape.

Duraimani was rushed to the hospital by his eldest son Suyamburajan, but he died on the way.

Paavoorchathram police arrested Selvam, who was working in a Chennai-based textile showroom and had come to his native place a couple of days ago.
