Collector M. Balaji inspected the preparations at the counting centres for the local body elections on Tuesday.

He inspected the facilities being made at the educational institutions in Virudhunagar, Sivakasi and Rajapalayam. Mr. Balaji wanted the officials to use the main entrance of the counting centres.

Separate entrances and exits should be provided at the centres for the candidates and their agents for the election for councillors and chairpersons of urban local bodies.

The Collector also asked the officials to put up barricades to prevent candidates and agents from entering into areas other than they are permitted.

Arrangements should be made for free movement of Returning Officers.

Separate seating facilities should be made for councillors and their agents while they wait for their turn to enter into the counting centres. Public address system should be provided to announce the results.

The officials should make all preparations to move the electronic voting machines from the strong room to the counting halls.

Voters' slips would be distributed to all the eligible voters to enable them exercise their franchise. Officials of Rural Development and Panchayats Department, Municipal Administration, Revenue Department and Social Welfare Department would distribute the slips.

The slips would be handed over to only the voters concerned. The voters should sign against their names in the copies of draft voter list on getting the slips.

Those who could not get the slips during the door-to-door distribution could collect them at their respective polling booths.

The distribution would be done throughout the polling day.
