DMDK founder president and Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Vijayakant surrendered before a court here on Thursday in connection with a defamation case filed against him.
For his alleged denigrating remarks against Chief Minister Jayalalithaa at a meeting held at Palayamkottai on August 6 last year, a case was filed against Mr. Vijayakant, who was asked to appear before the court on April 12. As he failed to do so, the case was posted for Wednesday (April 17).
Since Mr. Vijayakant did not appear before the court on Wednesday, III Additional Sessions Court Judge Kamalavathi issued warrant against him. Surrendering before the court on Thursday, Mr. Vijayakant said he had highest regard for the judiciary and explained that he could not appear before the court as he had to hold discussion with party MLAs over the recent developments in the Assembly and the suspension of party Legislators.
Ms. Kamalavathi posted the case for June 5.
