Anna Square police booked case against P. Vetrivel, a disqualified MLA and an election agent of the sidelined AIADMK leader and independent candidate T.T.V.Dhinakaran, on a complaint lodged by the Justice A. Arumughaswamy Commission of Inquiry seeking criminal action for release of purported video of late chief minister Jayalalithaa undergoing treatment at hospital.

The commission had been constituted by the Tamil Nadu Government to probe the circumstances leading to the death of Jayalalithaa.

The complaint from N. Panneerselvam, secretary to the commission, stated that the video had been brought to its notice at around 4.30 p.m. The complaint stated that a notification issued in all English and Tamil newspapers had asked people having personal knowledge or direct acquaintance on the circumstances leading to the death of Jayalalithaa to furnish information before them.

Stating that broadcasting such a video without any knowledge of its authenticity or without handing it over to the commission was a violation of the commission of inquiry acts and rules, the commission said, adding that it had been done on purpose by the individual to disturb peace, instigate clashes and create confusion among the public ahead of the election.

Mr. Vetrivel was booked under strong provisions of Indian Penal Code.
