Varichiyur Selvam held in highway robbery case

Police arrested Madurai-based history-sheeter Varichiyur Selvam on Friday in connection with a highway robbery case. He was produced before Magistrate Court III here, which remanded him in judicial custody.

Earlier, Inspector R. Gopinatha Pandian was also arrested in connection with the case. The police had already arrested three others – Karuppusamy (39) and Senthil of Varichiyur in Sivaganga district and Chellaiah (37) of Bodinayakkanur – on Thursday night. Two mobile phones and cigarette bundles worth Rs. 3 lakh were seized from them.

Acting on the information got from one of the three accused, a special squad arrested Varichiyur Selvam in Rajapalayam and brought him to Dindigul on Friday afternoon.

Last week, the police had arrested real estate business man Raj Kumar of Villapuram in Madurai.
