With the sudden rise in cases of robbery and chain snatching in the district, Superintendent of Police K. Vikraman has formed a ‘two-wheeler patrolling unit,’ which will be on round-the-clock policing to keep criminals at bay.

As incidents of robbery and chain snatching have increased suddenly in various parts of the district, Mr. Vikraman has formed the two-wheeler patrolling unit. Since the district has nine police sub-divisions, each being headed by a Deputy Superintendent of Police, five bikes have been given to each sub-division. Since Courtallam would be attracting a few lakh tourists during this season, the tourist destination has been given two additional bikes for patrolling.

“A Special Sub-Inspector of Police or a Head-Constable will be patrolling along with a constable on the 150cc bikes in plainclothes. They have been provided with walkie-talkie and weapons to deal with any situation. On getting information from the public about movement of criminals, the bike-borne police personnel will rush to the spot immediately to take appropriate action,” Mr. Vikraman said after formally launching the ‘police on bike.’

Members of this newly launched patrolling unit would work for 12 hours in two shifts.

The SP appealed to the public to alert the police whenever they came to know about criminals and their nefarious activities.

He also said that elaborate security arrangements would be in place in Courtallam during this season and policing had already been strengthened in the tourist destination with the help of surveillance cameras fitted at various points during the last season.

“We’ve drawn a comprehensive plan for unprecedented policing in Courtallam this time as safety of tourists, especially women and children, is of paramount importance for us. Since the surveillance cameras have been fitted at all vantage points to keep a tab on criminals and troublemakers, those who challenge the rule of law in Courtallam cannot escape,” Mr. Vikraman warned.
