The Namakkal Additional District Court on Monday awarded capital punishment to two persons in connection with a triple murder that took place in 2011.

According to prosecution, some miscreants entered the house of Sindhu (33), a doctor, and tied her, her mother Sathiyavathi (55) and grandmother Visalatchi (75), in broad daylight on October 13, 2011.

They allegedly slit their necks with weapons and escaped with 28 sovereigns of gold jewellery.

While Visalatchi and Sindhu died on the spot, Sathiyavathi died at the hospital.

The Namakkal police registered a case and arrested Santhanam alias Manoj Kumar of Chennai, S. Kamaraj (32) of Vaniyambadi, Vellore district, and N. Elango (27) of Paramathivelur.

Santhanam died due to illness at Salem Central Prison during the course of the case.

The Additional District Judge found Kamaraj and Elango guilty of the charge and awarded them capital punishment. He also sentenced each of them to life and ten years imprisonment for stealing the property and other crimes.
