Collector C. Samayamoorthy has said he will extend all possible help to enable U.M. Abitha, who has been selected to participate in the International Biathlon Meet to be held in Cyprus in October, to get a passport under ‘tatkal’ scheme.

Ms.Abitha met the Collector during the weekly grievance day meet at the Collectorate on Monday, and sought his help in getting the passport. Mr.Samayamoorthy immediately spoke to the Regional Passport Officer, Madurai, and requested him to ensure speedy issue of the passport to the girl.

Help pours in

Ms.Abitha is in need of around Rs.1.90 lakh to meet her travel and other expenses associated with the international meet, as highlighted by The Hindu.

After knowing her plight, an oil dealer from Tuticorin has sent Rs.50,000 to the girl, and a doctor’s family and another person, both from Palayamkottai, have come forward to give her Rs.5,000 each.

Karur Vysya Bank officials have asked the girl’s father, T.U. Muthukumar, to submit all relevant details to the bank administration in order to help her financially.

“I’ve submitted all the details to the Tirunelveli Town branch. One more person from Tenkasi and the members of Inner Wheel Club, Tenkasi, have also promised help to my daughter,” said Mr. Muthukumar.
