Puliyangudi police have arrested three persons, including two from Kerala, for allegedly possessing demonetised currency notes to the tune of ₹43 lakh.

The police said a team conducting vehicle check at Puliyangudi on Tuesday evening picked up three persons who were moving around in a suspicious manner. During interrogation, the trio – B. Murugan (33) of Chinthamani near Puliyangudi, M. Sajeevan (41) of Thrissur and S. Sivakumar (54) of Kollam – abused the police and tried to escape from them.

However, the police managed to bring them to the police station and checked their bags which contained demonetised ₹1,000 notes worth ₹23 lakh and old ₹500 notes worth ₹20 lakh.

They were produced in a court, which remanded them in judicial custody.
