Blood donation camp organised to mark the occasion

Led by Deputy Inspector General of Police (In-Charge), Tirunelveli Range, Karthikeyan, the police officers paid homage to 379 policemen and officers, who sacrificed their lives while discharging their duties across the country on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day observed on Saturday.

After Mr. Karthikeyan placed the wreath on the Martyr’s Column at Armed Reserve Police Grounds in Palayamkottai, Superintendent of Police P. Ve. Arunshakthikumar and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic), Tirunelveli City, Feroze Khan paid floral homage to the policemen and the officers who died in harness.

In Thoothukudi, Superintendent of Police P. Mahendran led the commemoration held in front of Thoothukudi South Police Station in which senior police officers participated.

Superintendent of Police, Kanniyakumari, M. Durai and senior police officers paid homage at a commemoration parade held in Nagercoil.

Ramanathapuram

Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena led the district police in paying homage to 370 police personnel, who had sacrificed their lives, while on duty at the Martyrs’ column in the Armed Reserve (AR) police grounds.

After Mr. Muthuramalingam, Inspector of Police (Armed Reserve), led a commemoration parade in respect of the slain policemen, Collector S. Natarajan, the SP, Principal District Judge A. Kayalvizhi, Naval commander T.V. Anilkumar, Indian Coast Guard commander K.V. Kosavi, Fire services zonal officer N.V. Ramaroa paid their respects by placing wreaths at the Martyrs’ Column.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ADSP-headquarters) T. Inbamani led the policemen in paying homage to the slain police personnel at the Kamudhi Special Force (KSF) in Kamudhi.

ADSP (Prohibition and Enforcement Wing) S Vellaidurai and Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) Balaji (Kilakarai), Natarajan (Ramanathapuram) and Gandhimathi Nathan (AR) were among others who paid their respects.

The SP said a total of 370 police personnel were killed or met with unnatural death while in service in a year from September 1, 2016, leaving behind their grieving families in order to secure and ensure the twin goals of peace and freedom in the country.

Sivaganga

In Sivaganga, SP T. Jayachandran led the policemen in the district in paying homage at the Armed Reserve grounds. DSPs from all the sub-divisions paid their homage by placing wreaths at the Martyrs’ Column.

Commemoration Day traces back to October 21, 1959, when a patrol party of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was ambushed by Chinese forces at Hot Sprints, 16,000 ft altitude, killing 10 Jawans.

Madurai

Senior police officials in Madurai, including Inspector General of Police (South Zone) Shailesh Kumar Yadav, Commissioner of Police (Madurai city) Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal and Superintendent of Police (Madurai) N. Manivannan, paid homage to the martyrs in the uniformed services as part of the Police Commemoration Day observed in the Armed Reserve Grounds here on Saturday.

Speaking at the function, Mr. Aggarwal mentioned that 379 police personnel have sacrificed their lives while on duty across the country the last year. Policemen also paid gun salute to the martyrs.

Later, a blood donation camp was organised, in which 118 police personnel and 60 civilians donated blood to the bllod bank at Government Rajaji Hospital.
