Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S. Ramadoss on Sunday slammed the Tamil Nadu government as V.K. Sasikala’s “benami” government which would not last long as predicted by political analysts.

“The government headed by Edapadi K. Palaniswami is a puppet government, a ‘benami’ government of Ms. Sasikala. She is running the government from the prison along with three other ‘benamis’ – her husband Natarajan and relatives T.T.V. Dinakaran and Divakaran,” Dr. Ramadoss told reporters after the party’s general body meeting held at Poigai here.

He said that this government cannot be a good government that takes care of the needs of people. He also alleged that Mr. Palaniswami had links with some arrested sand miners.

Dr. Ramadoss criticised the DMK for failing to act responsibly during Saturday’s floor test in the Assembly. “It did not act as a responsible Opposition party,” he said.

Pointing out to the violence that was unleashed inside the House, Dr. Ramadoss called it an attack on democracy. “This has brought shame to Tamil Nadu at a national level. There were shameful scenes of even the Speaker being attacked. Democracy was murdered,” Dr. Ramadoss said.

He criticised how AIADMK NLAs were made to stay at a resort for 11 days and “herded like cattle” for the floor test.

“In the last Assembly elections, people had voted after accepting cash. They did not select a good Chief Minister and did not vote for a good party,” he said.

Earlier, addressing party persons, he said if the PMK was voted to power and Anbumani Ramadoss made Chief Minister, they would work for the development of the State.

“We will provide an honest and corruption-free government. We will take up people’s problems and fight for the rights of the State,” Dr. Ramadoss said.

At the meeting, the newly appointed union, town and town panchayat presidents and secretaries of PMK were introduced to the party cadre.

Dr. Ramadoss announced a gift of a gold ring to the person who performs well and brings in more members for the party.
