Three members of a family committed suicide in their house at Jalakandapuram here on Friday.

V.K. Shekar (65) and his wife Gandhimathi (60) of Malayampalayam had two daughters. The elder daughter, Hemalatha (35), got separated from her husband after nine years of marriage, as they did not have children. For the past four years, she was living with her parents.

When the younger daughter returned from work on Friday evening, she found the door locked from inside. There was no response when she knocked on the door. With the help of neighbours, the door was broken open and they found Shekar, Gandhimathi and Hemalatha hanging. Jalakandapuram police sent the bodies to the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital. Police said inquiries revealed that the family was upset over Hemalatha’s condition and therefore she and her parents decided to commit suicide.

Those with suicidal tendency can contact the State’s health helpline 104 or Sneha’s suicide prevention helpline 044-24640050 for counselling.
