Police have arrested three persons in connection with the murder of C. Parthiban (47), president of Tuticorin Mechanised Boat Fishermen Labourers’ Association.

When Parthiban and his friend Sasi were going on a bike on Wednesday afternoon, they were waylaid and hacked by an armed gang. Parthiban was killed on the spot, and Sasi has been admitted to a private hospital in critical condition.

The relatives and friends of Parthiban refused to accept the body after post-mortem at Tuticorin Government Medical College Hospital, demanding immediate arrest of the assailants. They also demanded adequate compensation for the family of the deceased.

After Sub-Collector Gopala Sundararaj held talks with the protestors and assured them that he would forward their demands to the government, they agreed to accept the body.

The body was taken to Poobalarayarpuram, the native place of the deceased, and buried amidst tight police security.

The police arrested D. Parthiban (55) of Gandhi Nagar, his brothers Kennedy (52) and Wellington (48) in connection with the murder on Thursday.
