Strong wind suspends rope car service

Rope car service at Sri Dhandayuthapaniswamy Hill Temple was suspended temporarily owing to strong wind on Wednesday.

Devotees were advised to climb up the hill temple as the rope car would not be operated when the wind velocity was high, sources said. “The ground station would resume rope car service at any time when the wind velocity reduces. Normally, the temple town receives strong winds during this season. We stop the rope car service keeping in mind the safety of pilgrims,” said a technical team member.

The crowd in the temple was also very thin. Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department officials managed to transport the old and weak devotees to the hill station in three lifts.

Two days ago, the service of one of the winch cars was suspended as a tree fell on the track on the hill. Officials removed the tree and resumed the operation later.
