In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old man set himself and a minor girl ablaze after she spurned him.

The stalker identified as Senthil of Mambalapattu succumbed to burns, while the girl, who suffered 70 per cent burns, is battling for life at the JIPMER hospital in Puducherry. Police said Senthil who had lost a hand and leg in an accident went to the girl’s house on Saturday noon. The girl and her younger brother were alone at home. Senthil entered the house through the rear door with a can of petrol and threatened the girl and her brother at knifepoint after locking them in a room. He poured petrol on himself, set fire and hugged the girl.

On hearing their cries, locals put out the fire and rushed them to the Mundiyambakkam GH where Senthil died. The girl’s condition is said to be critical.
