DMK working president M.K.Stalin’s appeal to party leaders and cadre to present him books instead of shawls met with a huge response as he received over 15,000 books as gifts on his birthday on Wednesday.
“I presented him a self motivation book Ilakkai Ettum Varai Idaividathu Iyangu — (Try constantly till you reach your goal), penned by Australia-based Tamil Maha. Chinnathambi. Mr Stalin’s appeal will not only boost book sale but also reading habit,” said poet Vairamuthu.
He said at a time when satellite channels had captured the attention of people, books alone could create constructive thinking among humans.
Former Minister Thangam Thennarasu said he presented IAS officer Irai Anbu’s book Ilakkiyangalin Melanmai (Management in Literature).
In the morning, Mr. Stalin visited Anna Mausoleum and later Periyar Memorial where Dravidar Kazhagam president K. Veeramani welcomed him. He even arranged a cake cutting event for him.
After seeking the blessings of party general secretary K. Anbazhagan, he met his father and party president M. Karunanidhi and presented him the Tamil translation of Michel H. Heart’s The 100.
Partymen across the State brought other gifts. He received even a cow and goat as gifts.
